Chelsea JV Dominates Pioneer

Chelsea’s Jordan Holton drives through the Pioneer defense

Chelsea entered Ann Arbor Pioneer’s gym on Tuesday night in need of a big victory and that’s exactly what they got. Coach Annie Hollandsworth’s Bulldogs played an excellent team effort game on their way to a huge 47-27 victory.

The Bulldogs started strong tallying 18 points in the first quarter and holding Pioneer to only 2 baskets. In the 2nd quarter, the Pioneer defense tightened up but so did Chelsea’s, not allowing a single Pioneer basket as they took a huge 23-4 lead into the half.

Pioneer came out strong fast after the second half but so did Chelsea as they kept the pedal to the metal, playing a strong pressing defense creating lots of turnovers. Chelsea spread the ball around a lot and dominated on the boards.

The Bulldogs moved to 6-6 on the season behind their leading scorer Jordan Holton who finished the night with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Jenna Fosdick finished with 10 points and 3 rebounds, while Kyle Bragg put up 7 points and led the team with 5 rebounds and also played a strong defensive game. Several players finished with 4 points and a few rebounds each.

The Bulldogs hit the road again this Friday to play Ypsilanti with a  5:30 tipoff.

Jordan Holton Drives To The Basket Against Lincoln

On Tuesday night in Chelsea, the girls junior varsity put on an offensive show in front of their home fans as they defeated the Lincoln Railsplitters 63-36. The Bulldogs started out slow as they fell behind Lincoln 13-12. But Coach Andrea Hollandsworth regrouped her girls and they fought back to go into halftime with a 26-24 lead.

After the half, the Bulldogs came out with a vengeance and went on a big scoring spree while forcing many turnovers, playing a tight, solid press defense that stymied Lincoln. In the third quarter, Chelsea only allowed Lincoln to score 4 points, with half of those coming off free throws.

The Chelsea girls didn’t let, up forcing several turnovers and getting 15 steals. Coach Hollandsworth emptied the bench giving all her girls playing time. In the second half, the Bulldogs defense only surrounded 12 points as they coasted their way to a big victory.

The Bulldogs had 4 players in double digit scoring, led by Jordan Holton with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assist, and 4 steals. Gabby Udell finished with 13 points (one basket off a long 3-pointer),  Jenna Fosdick had 11 points with 7 rebounds and 3 steals,  while Caitlin Dusenberry finished with 10 points. Kyle Bragg had 4 points and 4 steals.

The Jv team will finish the 2016 year before Christmas Break at Ann Arbor Skyline on Thursday night.

The Chelsea Junior Varsity team has been on a roll lately. And tonight was no different. The Bulldogs came out on fire right away led by Freshman Jenna Fosdick and a tough Chelsea defense forcing Skyline to call a timeout to regroup after the Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 13-1 lead. Fosdick started the game with 6 quick points. But the relentless Bulldogs didn’t let up, forcing turnovers and dominating the boards, led by Freshman Madeline Vasquez.

Skyline struggled throughout the game and could only muster 7 points at half. They started to hit a few shots later in the game but it was way too little, way too late, as Chelsea cruised to a 62-27 victory. Fosdick led all the Bulldogs with 16 points, followed by Vasquez with 14, Anna Regis with 8, and Helena Schultz with 7.

The Bulldogs will be back in action again Monday against Jackson at home.
